Our Second ‘Missionary’ Journey Begins for Alia’s Re-election – Iorpuu

The Missionary Journey for Governor Alia’s Second Term Begins

The Convener of the Divine Mandate for Alia, Sir James Iorpuu, has announced that the group has officially launched its second phase of efforts to support Governor Hyacinth Alia in securing a second term as the leader of Benue State. This initiative aims to ensure that the governor completes his full eight-year tenure, which he began in 2021.

Divine Mandate, a platform established by Sir Iorpuu in 2023, played a crucial role in bringing Governor Alia into the 2023 election and ensuring his victory. The group’s activities have been centered around promoting the governor’s vision and policies, particularly in addressing the challenges faced by the state.

During a recent Thanksgiving service held at Christ the King Parish in Damkor, Gboko Diocese, the group celebrated its achievements and reflected on the journey that led to Governor Alia’s election. The event was organized to express gratitude to God for the success of their mission and to seek divine blessings for the upcoming phase of their work.

Sir Iorpuu, who also serves as the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), emphasized that although the Thanksgiving was delayed, it was an important step in reaffirming their commitment to the cause. He noted that the event provided an opportunity to celebrate the progress made and to prepare for the next stage of their campaign.

The idea for Governor Alia’s political campaign was first conceived during a meeting between Sir Iorpuu and the governor at the parish house on April 28, 2019, when Iorpuu was still serving as a priest at the parish. This meeting marked the beginning of a collaboration that would eventually lead to Alia’s election as governor.

Iorpuu explained that his decision to initiate the movement came after the re-election of the previous governor, Chief Samuel Ortom, in 2019. He saw this as an opportunity to address the issues of misrule and bring about positive change in Benue State. His efforts bore fruit, and Governor Alia was elected, with notable achievements such as “resurrecting the dead” and providing pensioners with renewed hope for their future.

As the group moves into the second phase of its mission, Sir Iorpuu is urging citizens to take part in the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) exercise. He encourages those who do not have a voters’ card and those who have reached the age of 18 to register, ensuring they can participate in the upcoming elections.

Joseph Adi, a stakeholder from the Etulo community, highlighted the symbolic significance of the Thanksgiving event. He described it as a platform for renewing the mandate that was conceived years ago, emphasizing the importance of continued support for Governor Alia.

Chief Mrs Comfort Rufus, a prominent figure in the Etulo community, praised Governor Alia for lifting the people out of hardship and creating job opportunities. She expressed admiration for his efforts, including the planned construction of three roads in the area, and stated that if she had the power, she would support him for a third term.

Rev Fr Alfred Akuraga, the Parish Priest, acknowledged the parish as the birthplace of Governor Alia’s mandate and prayed for its continued growth and success. He also expressed hope that the governor’s work would continue to bear fruit for the benefit of the people.

In addition to the Thanksgiving service, Sir Iorpuu addressed elders and party faithfuls in the community, reinforcing the importance of unity and collective effort in supporting Governor Alia’s campaign. The event was attended by members of the Board of Trustees, directors, and various supporters of the Divine Mandate across the state, as well as officials from Buruku local government areas.

As the campaign for Governor Alia’s re-election gains momentum, the Divine Mandate continues to play a vital role in mobilizing support and ensuring that the governor’s vision for Benue State is realized.
