Tragic Attack in Kharkiv
A devastating missile strike hit a residential building in Kharkiv, Ukraine, resulting in the tragic deaths of a three-year-old boy and his 22-year-old mother. The incident occurred when Russian ballistic missiles targeted a tower block in the northeastern part of the country. The bodies of the woman and her son were discovered among the rubble following the attack.
President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the assault as “heinous” after rescuers found 30 additional injured individuals, including a six-month-old boy. In a statement on X, Zelensky expressed frustration with the ongoing conflict, saying, “This is how the Russians treat life and people – they continue killing, despite all efforts by the world, and especially by the United States, in the diplomatic process.”
Russia’s defense ministry offered an alternative explanation for the blast, claiming that it was caused by Ukrainian ammunition detonating. They suggested that the reports were an attempt to divert attention from a New Year’s Eve strike on a hotel in a Russian-held area of the southern Kherson region of Ukraine.
Footage from Kharkiv showed smoke rising from the ruins as emergency crews and volunteers worked tirelessly to search for survivors. The attack occurred just before a key summit in Paris, where a “coalition of the willing” would gather to discuss strategies to prevent further Russian incursions into Europe.

The conference, involving 35 countries including Britain, Ukraine, and France, aims to address the growing threat posed by Russia. Although former U.S. President Donald Trump is not participating in the talks, the United States remains the primary broker in peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. A U.S. delegation will attend the meeting via video link.
Mr. Trump recently voiced his frustrations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating, “I’m not thrilled with Putin. He’s killing too many people.”
