Makururu Urges SADC on Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill

Archbishop Andby Makururu’s Efforts to Promote Constitutional Amendments in Southern Africa

Archbishop Andby Makururu, the leader of the Johanne the Fifth of Africa International Church, has been actively engaging in a charm offensive across southern Africa. His mission is to discuss the proposed constitutional amendments in Zimbabwe and highlight how these changes could benefit the entire region.

The amendments under consideration aim to extend the current term of the President and eliminate direct presidential elections, among other significant modifications. These changes have sparked considerable debate and interest, particularly within the context of regional stability and governance.

During his recent visit to Mozambique, Makururu met with leaders of the Frelimo party at a prayer service. This event was not only a spiritual gathering but also an opportunity for him to present the details of Zimbabwe’s Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 to a large audience. The prayer service drew thousands of congregants, showcasing the strong following that Makururu commands in the neighboring country.

Makururu emphasized that elections have been a source of instability in the southern African region. He stated:

“Zimbabwe is in the mood of Amendment No. 3 Bill, as well as infrastructure development.

“For those who are wasting time in not supporting the Bill, they are wasting their time and they will remain excluded.”

He further explained the role of the church in promoting peace, unity, and development. “Our duty as a church is to deliver peace, unity and development in the name of the Almighty God and Jesus Christ,” he said.

Makururu argued that the amendment is not solely beneficial for Zimbabwe but could also have positive implications for the entire southern African region. He pointed out that President Emmerson Mnangagwa would have more time to focus on national development if the amendments are passed.

“The Amendment No. 3 Bill is not benefiting Zimbabwe only, but it is going to benefit the southern African region as a whole because President Emmerson Mnangagwa is going to have more time to develop the country.

“Zanu PF has led the way in the region, so other countries in the region are able to join as well.”
