2026: Atiku Promises Ekiti Shock as Ex-Governors Back ADC

The Rise of the African Democratic Congress in Ekiti

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is gaining momentum as it attracts defectors from various political parties, including the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP). This development has sparked optimism among supporters, especially after former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar called on his followers to remain steadfast. He emphasized that the ADC is positioned to make a significant impact in the 2026 Governorship poll in Ekiti State.

During the unveiling of the ADC in Ado-Ekiti, Atiku was represented by Prof. Bayo Fakunle, former Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Obafemi Awolowo University. Atiku pledged to address the challenges faced by Nigerians under the current administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated that whoever becomes the ADC Governorship candidate will win the 2026 election.

Atiku also encouraged Governor Biodun Oyebanji to prepare for a smooth handover ahead of the polls. He expressed gratitude to the people of Ekiti for their support during his presidential campaign in previous elections. The event was attended by notable figures such as two former deputy governors, Professor Olusola Kolapo and Dr. Sikiru Tae-Lawal, as well as members from the Labour Party (LP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A Coalition for Change

Professor Olusola Kolapo, who led the PDP bloc to the unveiling, highlighted the ADC’s mission to combat maladministration and restore prosperity to Nigeria. He stressed that the party’s leaders possess the capability to improve the economy and bring about positive change. Kolapo emphasized the core values of honesty, transparency, and accountability that guide the ADC.

“We are united in our goal to drive out those responsible for the country’s decline through poor governance. Our leaders have clear plans to enhance the Nigerian economy and ensure the well-being of its citizens. With God’s grace, these intentions will materialize,” he said. Kolapo urged unity among all citizens to create a better future for Nigeria.

He further noted that the ADC is more than just a political party; it is a platform for individuals determined to rescue the nation from mismanagement and lack of accountability. “We stand against intimidation and one-party dominance,” he added.

Commitment to Good Governance

Omolayo Ilesanmi, the ADC Chairman in Ekiti State, reiterated the party’s commitment to working closely with national leaders as preparations for the 2026 gubernatorial election and the 2027 general elections begin. He emphasized the importance of unity, discipline, and dedication in delivering a government that serves the people and promotes good governance.

Ilesanmi highlighted that the ADC welcomes individuals who share its values of progress, development, integrity, and honesty. He pointed out that the party aims to replace corrupt and deceitful politics with transparency and accountability. “ADC marks a new beginning for Nigeria, a movement dedicated to practical solutions and genuine leadership,” he said.

He also mentioned that people are seeking good governance, which has been lacking for years. This desire for change has made them ready to support the ADC in the upcoming Ekiti election. “Whoever emerges as our candidate in the 2026 governorship election will become the governor of Ekiti State,” Ilesanmi declared.

Looking ahead, he expressed confidence in the ADC’s potential for success. “Next time you are interviewing me like this, you will be congratulating me for our victory,” he concluded.
