Can-Am Unveils Powerful EV ATV with Strong Motorcycle Heritage and Heavy-Duty Towing

Can-Am Introduces the 2026 Outlander Electric ATV

After reintroducing Can-Am motorcycles to the world in the form of all-electric bikes, the Canadian company is now taking those electric drivetrains into the ATV world with the new 2026 Outlander Electric. While I may have a soft spot for the sounds of two-stroke turbos or naturally aspirated triples, I’m fully on board with the electric revolution. This might seem unexpected from someone like me, who loves high-speed performance, but electric powertrains make a lot of sense for many of the activities I enjoy.

From tackling backyard chores to late-night off-road adventures and silently navigating the woods in search of elk and deer, an electric vehicle (EV) powertrain represents an ideal future scenario that I hope continues to evolve. The potential for innovation is vast if we get it right. One of the leaders in this electric transition within the powersports industry is Can-Am, which has been heavily investing in electric technology for several years. This investment is evident in the company’s reintroduction of its motorcycle lineup with the Origin and Pulse all-electric bikes.

However, the electric technology isn’t confined to two-wheeled vehicles. After debuting the Defender HD11, Can-Am is now unveiling its all-new 2026 Outlander Electric, an electric ATV with impressive towing capabilities.

Features and Performance

The Outlander Electric draws its roots from Can-Am’s motorcycle models, the Pulse and Origin, as well as Ski-Doo’s electric snowmobiles, which use the same Rotax E-Power powerpack. In the ATV version, this powerpack has been tuned specifically for the demands of off-road riding, including tasks like woodland exploration, farm work, and ranching.

This tuning results in a power output of 47 horsepower and 53 lb-ft of torque from an 8.9 kWh battery. The Outlander Electric boasts a remarkable towing capacity of 1,830 pounds, making it one of the most capable ATVs on the market. While current EVs in the powersports segment often fall short in range, the Outlander Electric offers up to 50 miles in optimal conditions—ideal for farm work and light off-roading. Can-Am also claims that using a Level 2 charger, the vehicle can go from 20% to 80% charge in just 50 minutes, minimizing downtime for those working on a ranch.

Design and Technology

Riders can choose between 2WD and 4WD modes, and the design focuses on reducing maintenance needs. There are no oil changes beyond the transmission, no spark plugs, and no air filters required. The Outlander Electric also features a 5-inch color display and is engineered for a quiet ride. It includes noise-reducing XPS Recon Force tires, a suspension setup tailored for the model, and a low-noise cooling system.

Pricing and Availability

In terms of pricing, the Outlander Electric is comparable to other ATVs in its segment and aligns with the cost of its electric motorcycle counterparts. The model comes in two versions: the standard Outlander Electric priced at $12,999 and the Outlander Electric Max at $14,299.

While I would prefer more range for my preferred activities, the Outlander Electric serves as a solid entry point in the all-electric revolution. It offers a quiet and efficient solution for those needing reliable performance in the outdoors. Imagine the early morning silence as you head out to your deer stand without the usual engine noise.

Future of Electric Powersports

As the electric vehicle market continues to grow, innovations like the Outlander Electric signal a shift towards more sustainable and efficient options in the powersports industry. With ongoing advancements, the future of electric ATVs and motorcycles looks promising, offering a blend of performance, practicality, and environmental responsibility.
